All About Passion Fruit

Passion fruit are in season now at the farm and we wanted to share a few fun facts about one of our favorite fruits!

Passion fruit grow on a climbing vine and once established, can grow 15-20 ft. per year! At Shanley Farms, we have passion fruit vines growing all along the deer fencing which surrounds the avocado groves on our ranch in Morro Bay, California.

The fruit can be 1.5-3 inches in diameter and turn from green to purple when ripe and ready to harvest. The fruit begins to wrinkle up as it matures and is ready to eat.

Passion fruit is packed with nutrients! A single passion fruit contains just 17 calories but packs in 2 grams of fiber and is a great source of vitamin C and vitamin A, in addition to being a rich source of antioxidants1

Pro Tip: the uglier a piece of passion fruit is, the sweeter and more delicious it is!

Availability can be limited so be sure to get your box of passion fruit today and check out our recipes and community garden pages for more inspiration!
