Avocados: Much More Than a Trend

The winning combination of versatility, health benefits, and pure deliciousness has us all confident of this fruit’s long-term popularity.

Avocados All Day, Every Day

On top of toast, sliced in a salad, or dip on a chip, avocados are popping up in every store and on every dish this summer. And once you experience their creamy texture and savory taste you’ll understand why! But will avocados just be a passing fad or become a pantry staple for years to come?

At Shanley Farms, my family and I are confident in the avocado’s ability to withstand the test of time. The winning combination of versatility, health benefits, and pure deliciousness has us all confident of this fruit’s long-term popularity.

Of course, we especially love our Morro Bay Avocados. But for good reason! The ecosystem found in Morro Bay, California yields the highest quality avocados on the market this time of year. The cooler climate slows the avocado’s metabolic process encouraging them to ripen on the tree for months longer than an avocado grown farther south in a warmer climate. The results are a richer, creamier avocado.

Sweet and Savory

From appetizers to desserts, Morro Bay Avocados delight every time! I love to spread half a Morro Bay Avocado on some thick whole wheat bread and top with our Citirburst finger lime pearls (we call it a Shanley Farms special). When I want something sweet, the high oil content makes them a perfect ingredient in creamy chocolate pudding or rich avocado brownies.

Morro Bay Avocado Speaking of high oil content, what’s so good about avocado fat? Well, avocados contain monounsaturated fat that helps lower bad cholesterol; they are also filled to the skin with a wide variety of vitamins including potassium, folate and vitamins C, D, E, B6 and K. In fact, I’ve been known to just skip the daily vitamin and head straight for a Morro Bay Avocado!

And lucky for you, our Morro Bay Avocados are now available to be shipped from our farm to your door! Also, I love to share how we are using Morro Bay Avocados in our kitchen, so make sure to follow us on Instagram (@citriburst.pearls & @shanelyfarms) and Facebook (@shanleyfarms) for recipes and stories from the farm. And don’t forget to share your creations with us, too – we look forward to seeing what you make!
